Jason Thomas Poremba - 2009 Maggie Award

May 15, 2009 FireRescue1.com announced it has taken home the award for Best Regularly Featured Web Column/Trade at the Western Publishers’ Association’s 2009 Maggie Awards. Each year, the Maggie Awards honor the best print publications and Web sites in the Western United States. FireRescue1 received the award for Close Calls on Camera, written by Jason Poremba, a New York firefighter and the owner of firefighting video Web site FirefighterSpot.com. The monthly column is an innovative combination of dramatic firefighting videos with analysis and instruction, providing readers the unique ability to learn important safety lessons from incidents caught on tape. FireRescue1 received three total nominations for the 2009 awards, with nods in the Best Web Article/Trade and Best Web E-Newsletter/Trade categories in addition to the Column nomination. The total exceeded FireRescue1’s one nomination for the 2008 awards, when it was recognized in the Best Web Article/ Trade category for the article “Young Chiefs Come of Age,” by FireRescue1 Editor Jamie Thompson. “We are honored to receive an award that recognizes us not only as a leader in online media for the fire service, but among a much broader segment of trade media,” said Jon Hughes, Online Director for FireRescue1.com. “We of course share the credit for the award with our excellent columnist, Jason Poremba, whose ability to convey in an entertaining and impactful manner lifesaving tips is representative of the talent present in FireRescue1’s roster of expert columnists.” Also taking home an award was sister site EMS1.com, which won the Maggie for Best Web E-Newsletter/Trade for the bi-weekly EMS1 eNews.
